Everton continued their good start with a 2-0 win at Brighton and Hove Albion, Leicester City condemned promoted Norwich City to a third straight defeat with a 2-1 win at Carrow Road while Southampton earned a dramatic 2-2 draw at Newcastle United and Crystal Palace held West Ham United to a 2-2 draw in an entertaining derby on Saturday.
Everton sink Brighton
Dominic Calvert-Lewin had to negotiate the ball from teammate Richarlison before converting a second-half penalty in Everton’s 2-0 victory over Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday.
Richarlison grabbed the ball after Seamus Coleman was taken down in the box by Joel Veltman in the 56th minute and initially refused to give it up to Calvert-Lewin, Everton’s designated penalty-taker.
Leicester condemn Norwich to third straight loss
Leicester City’s Marc Albrighton struck a 76th-minute winner as the visitors condemned promoted Norwich City to a third straight defeat with a 2-1 win at Carrow Road on Saturday.
Jamie Vardy had fired Leicester ahead with a superbly taken goal in the eighth minute before Teemu Pukki brought the home side level from the penalty spot just before the break.
West Ham held to 2-2 home draw by Palace
Crystal Palace midfielder Conor Gallagher scored his side’s first two league goals of the season as they held West Ham United to a 2-2 draw in an entertaining derby at the London Stadium on Saturday.
The point took the Hammers back to the top spot in the Premier League table, though David Moyes’s side will feel that they could have taken all three points against a Palace side that struggled to deal with their high press.
Villa and Brentford play out feisty 1-1 draw
Aston Villa and Brentford played out an entertaining 1-1 draw as the visiting promoted side continued their impressive start to the Premier League season at Villa Park on Saturday.
Brentford started brighter, opening the scoring after seven minutes when Ivan Toney found himself unmarked in the box and fired home an unstoppable strike following a low cross from the left by Sergi Canos that was flicked on by Pontus Jansson.
Saints earn a point with a late penalty in a 2-2 draw at Newcastle
Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse scored a 96th-minute penalty to earn his side a dramatic 2-2 draw at Newcastle United on Saturday – a result that leaves both teams still waiting for their first win of the season.
Saints were awarded the penalty in the dying minutes after a VAR intervention, with Jamaal Lascelles adjudged to have fouled Adam Armstrong as he was about to shoot.Live TV
