Montana Love defeats Ivan Baranchyk via 7th-round TKO
Montana Love flipped the script on what was supposed to be a return power display by former IBF 140-pound champion Ivan Baranchyk. A hard left-handed uppercut by Cleveland’s unbeaten Love flush to the face of Baranchyk convinced Baranchyk trainer Pedro Diaz to stop the fight in the corner after the seventh round. Love (16-0-1, 8 KOs) had withstood Baranchyk’s power attempts earlier, piling up rounds with impressive counterpunching and superb movement.
“Hopefully, I gained more fans tonight. We’ve been working on this uppercut in camp and we brought it to life. The game plan was to move. We know he doesn’t have any feet,” Love said. “It’s my time.” He called out undisputed champion Josh Taylor and two-division champion Gervonta Davis afterward.
